A Relaxed York Elopement – Lesley & James at York Registry Office
If you’re planning a wedding and the idea of a big, busy day doesn’t feel like you, this is exactly the kind of wedding you’ll want to see.
Lesley and James chose to keep things simple, personal, and completely focused on what mattered most — and honestly, it couldn’t have suited them better.
Their day was a relaxed elopement in York with just a handful of their closest people, and it had such a calm, genuine feel from start to finish.
An intimate Ceremony at York Registry Office

The day began at York Registry Office in the Bootham Suite, where Lesley and James arrived just minutes apart before their 3pm ceremony.
With only six of them there, including their two children, the whole atmosphere felt intimate and personal — no rush, no pressure, just excitement and a few nerves in the best way.
It’s always nice photographing smaller ceremonies like this. Everything feels more focused, and you get to capture moments that might get lost in a bigger wedding.
Family Moments That Matter
One of the best parts of the day was how much it centred around family.
Edith and Arthur, their two children, were such a big part of everything — from the ceremony through to the photos afterwards. Those natural interactions, the way they were all together, are exactly the kind of moments that make days like this so meaningful.
We kept group photos simple and relaxed, making sure we got the important ones without turning it into a long, drawn-out photoshoot.

Exploring York for Natural Couple Photos
After the ceremony, we headed out into York to make the most of the surroundings.
This is where the day really came into its own.
Instead of posing, we just walked, chatted, and stopped in a few of the spots they’d chosen — including the classic York streets and architecture, and of course, The Shambles.
There was no pressure, no awkwardness — just the two of them enjoying the moment while I captured things as they naturally happened.
That’s always the goal.

A Meal at The Ivy York
After exploring the city, Lesley and James headed to The Ivy in York for a meal to celebrate.
It was the perfect way to finish the day — relaxed, personal, and completely on their terms.
No big schedule, no stress. Just good food, good company, and a chance to actually enjoy it all.

Why Small Weddings Like This Just Work
There’s something about elopements and smaller weddings that really stands out.
They strip everything back to what matters:
– The people
– The moments
– The experience
And because of that, everything feels more natural — including the photos.
No rushing around. No being pulled away for hours. Just a day that unfolds exactly as it should.
